Remax Venice Florida

As a member of the Remax Venice Florida real estate team, I'm naturally "big" on Venice. As such, here are a few "fun facts" and a bit of history about this great little town.

Purchase Venice Island FL real estate and don't be surprised if, as you take a stroll from your home and walk along our beautiful beaches, you find prehistoric shark teeth (especially near the Venice Fishing Pier). Venice is listed in many publications as the "Shark's Tooth Capital of the World," and we celebrate this designation each year with our Shark's Tooth Festival.

Venice Florida started out as a settlement in the late 1800’s called Horse and Chaise. Horse and Chaise, renamed Venice for its numerous canals and waterways, became an area of settlement for ancestral icons, which included the family names of the Webbs, Knights, Roberts, Wredes, Higels, Blackburns, Palmers, Albees and Currys, all who would leave their own marks on the city that would become Venice, Florida. Railroad Paves Way for Venice Florida Development

The many snowbirds and retirees who have purchased Venice Island FL real estate over the years wouldn't have been able to do so without the help of the railroad. The first line came to Venice in 1911, which paved the way for new development and the expansion of homes in Venice Florida. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers purchased 3,000 acres of land in 1925, and soon organized the BLE Realty Corporation and the Venice Company to develop it. The Venice Company retained the world-renowned city planner John Nolen to design the town and the first street in Venice opened to traffic in June 1926, with residential construction beginning in July.
